Default super glue on knots

I am wondering if I added a dap of super glue to a mono knot would it help or would the super glue eat the knot making it weaker, I want to add some 25lb mono line to an existing salmon reel using that has 20lb mono as a backing and the 2 knots I am familiar with are the Albright knot or the blood knot.

I would just try it on some extra line and see what it does. My guess is- if it was a good thing we would have heard about it by now. Nothing ventured= nothing gained

There is a U-V activated glue that works best for fly fishing applications. (especially for nails knots) Google it. Not cheap but a tube lasts a long time.

Exclamation Try

We used this product a few years back then we went to super glue.

Then we just stopped completely. Seems more of a hassle.

Howler,
Why do you want to use glue on your knots.

If you leave some tag ends, there will be no issue at all with a knot of the right kind coming loose.

Since you are talking about tying mono onto a backing line which would seldom if ever see the light of day or get wet, what difference does it make if you leave a 1/2 inch tag end to insure that the knot does not come loose?

When I tie on a mono to a backing line, I just use a surgeons knot and leave 1/2 inch tag ends. Quick simple easy and reliable.

Be safe

I know super glue often melts plastic, so it would be interesting to see what it does to line.

The only time I ever heard the need to glue line is with the new super lines that are so slick the knot can start to slip if tied to another line. I use super lines all the time and never have had a Palomar knot slip out on me.

More experience than I wish with superglues....two downsides: they have a bit of an issue sticking to a slick surface. Not saying they will come loose, but the bond isn't as strong. Mono is pretty slick. Second, they make the glued area a hard, inflexible "chunk" that will be wound up inside your reel, making a spot that other line can wear against, get abraded, and become weaker. They work better with superlines that are woven/multi-strand as there is something to soak in to - but still make a hard spot in the line.

Super glue comes in a plastic bottle

I have been using super glue on my salmon trolling hooks, leaders etc for years, never an issue. it is also true that super glue doesn't really form a strong bond on slick fishing line, but it adds enough resistant to prevent the knot from slipping.
I know you don't really need it if you tie a good knot with enough tag end but I just do it for peace of mind.
