Default Lake Superior ice fishing

Has anyone ice fished lake superior for trout or whitefish? I never have and
would like to try. I am going up there late next week. Where does the lake freeze up and what would I need for jigs or bait? How far out would I have to go out? Thanks

Not sure what you meant about "up there", but here are a lot of people taking advantage of good ice conditions on Keweenaw Bay along the south shore, east of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The link below is a good source for information about conditions and the fishery.
