I got the Streamlight TLR-1S for around $100 on Ebay, probably the best bang for your buck but heard Surefire are the best......

I don't know much about them but a friend of mine who is a BIG TIME night time coyote hunter said the laser designators are the way yo go over a flashlight. It's an adjustable green light laser that will light up a small (about 5' diamter) area like unreal.

Thanks guys. I did go the laser route. I ended up with a SigSauer ST L-300J STOPLITE. I went with the red laser as I wanted it for a short range rifle. The Surefire was very nice but pricey. I figured that I did not need the IR LED just yet either. I have noticed that Crimson Trace makes some very nice flashlight/ green laser combos. Some day I might have to pick one of these up for a long range rifle.

The STOPLITE claims that it has 700 lumens. I am a bit skeptical about this claim, but the reviews claim that it puts out a lot of light.

You might want to try this light. For the money, it's hard to beat. I have two of them and they throw a lot of light.

What kind of rifle do you own? I assume it's an AR platform. I put a Streamlight vertical foregrip (M910A) on mine and I love it, but I agree it's pricey. If anyone else is looking for a similar product, Rico Tactics makes an identical light (EVO II). They run about $350, but I have seen them a lot cheaper. Many of my buddies use them and they seem to hold up very well.
