Default Mercury 60 T or Etec 60 T

If you were buying a 16ft tiller boat.
Would you go with a 4 stroke Merc or a Etec in the 60hp model?

Boats Crestliner pro tiller or Alumacraft Competitor 165 tiller?

Local dealer has the Crestliner and both motors

I have to go out of town for the Alumacraft with same choice of motors.

Wish I had choice of either Yamaha or Honda.

EDIT! Sorry,( Can get a Honda locally but the dealer doesn`t sell boats)

Why don't you just have the Cabela's store in Dundee MI get you one, since you'll soon have a new local store for future service? The Rogers MN store offers that hull with a Yamaha.

Too bad you don't have a Honda dealer in your area, the BF60 is an awsome motor!!!Lighter than the Etec, actually it is lightest in its class. I can't believe the performance that four strokes put out these days, they sure have come a long way!!!

It is your money, you always have a choice!!! If the dealer didn't have the motor you wanted, go somewhere else. If you are spending money on a new boat, get what you want so you are happy and not second guessing yourself the whole time. Even if it is a bit of a drive, it would be worth it to have the dream rig!

Default The Etec Is Better

Based only on my experiences I would go with the Etec. The best motor in that class by far.

I have a 2003 60hp merc 4 stroke EFI tiller on a 2003 Lund Pro Angler 16. It is a great motor, no complaints at all.

Default 60 merc

From what I have read and heard if you are going to be doing much trolling you should likely go with the Merc.

Yea I`m thinking a four cylinder mercury 60 would be more enjoyable than a 2 cylinder Etec 60.

Them are big pistons for a 60 horse 2 cylinder.
I had the old Johnson 50 two stroke and it idled rough, but it was a good motor just the same.

The hands that build the motor have little to do with quality.
Engineering and quality control dictates quality.
China turns out quality products by global companys. The generic Chinese companys turn out junk.

I think there`s nothing wrong with Mercury building in China for the Chinese market.
They should build in America for the American market.

I haven`t locked on to anything yet and I`ll be looking time is on my side.
I think Mercury builds a fine motor.

I have a 10 year old Johnson 70 that has been just about flawless.

I second guess myself all the time.

The 10 year old Johnson is a 40 year old design, great back in it`s day.

I had the same dilema back in Jan when I ordered my new boat. I looked at all the manufactures and they were close in pricing. The area they were not was in warranty. Mercury had or still has a promo offering a two year ext. warranty for a total of five. Unfortunately nowadays almost everything is made in China and I'd be willing to bet that some of Evinrude's parts come from overseas.
