Default Wax Worms

How do you guys take care of your wax worms for ice fishing? I guess I'm looking at long term care if you order 1000 or so.

Temp is the key...fridge is too cold, you want 43-49 degrees. Clean out the dead ones. That's about it.

I do the same as thump55. You most be diligent about taking out the dead ones, as the sawdust type beddig will turn sour and start smelling and killing off the rest. Bedding should be dry and put in a cool dark place.

x2 on the 43-49 degrees. Too cold and they die, too warm and you will have 1000 moths.

In the Winter, I use blue painter's tape and affix my waxie container{s} flat against a window pane in my basement. The cold from the glass permeates my containers and keep the waxies nice and cold, but not too cold

That is a pretty good idea.

Completely switched to gulp/ trying the new waxie gulp alive this season. I typically use the maggot gulp. Not temp sensitive, leave it in my bibs so I never forget it. Requires more action on the rod holders end. I have found it very useful in my spearing house picking off crappies.

The best part is you can often get multiple fish on one piece, where I used to use two or three waxies. Been on the ice about half a dozen times this season the alive version works even better, the normal gulp is slightly softer and does fall apart but I think I got 4 fish to one the first time I got on em. Impressed, chartreuse is killer

Basement works well. I heat my garage to about 48 in the winter and that works even better. Definitely not the fridge. If a bait shop sells them out of a fridge, find another bait shop. They should be sold at room temp.
