Default Lowrance HDS update 3.0.33.84 comments

Just wanted to pass along some observations after fishing in Canada for a week with the new software update for the HDS units 3.0.33.84.
- First and foremost I was using a 2009 Navionics Premium SD chip, and while using that chip the zoom in and zoom out of the maps was extremely slow and many times it seemed like I had to wait for the unit to finish processing the request.
- When the Navionics chip is selected, part of my overlays disappear (EPE and fuel remaining)
- At one point for the first time since I have owned the unit, the screen at one point started turning darker and darker to the point that I had to restart the unit and then it went back to normal
- Not sure on this one, but I have one of the Lowrance fuel flow meters and on the third day of the trip the fuel remaining dropped to -117000 gallons. At the same time my 520C unit in the front of the boat lost all of its waypoints and overlays. To get around the fuel remaining issue, I just set the unit to fuel amount to full and the 520c I had to reload the waypoints and overlays. Both units performed alright for the rest of the week after these issues.

Not sure if anyone else has run into similar issues. I fished yesterday without the Navionics chip and everything worked fine, quick zoom in and zoom outs and no overlay or fuel amount issues.

Default Slooower

I noticed both my HDS 10 and 8 operate noticeably slower after the update.

3.0 fixed the problem I was having with the plotter on my HDS-5 "freezing up" for extended periods.

Geareng,

My HDS-10 dims itself out of nowhere as well...It seems every other trip out it simply dims itself to the point where it is hard to even read the shut/power button. My voltage is just fine....another gliche that drives me nuts! My waypoints are upside down when i am tracking up...I have the 09 nav chip....and insight..in addition, the unit will power up if i leave the power plug in overnight...crazy and frustrating issues! I may call again...will let you know if hear anything else...

I've heard several such reports from other Lowrance owners. I control power to my LCX27c with a master switch. A dedicated wire pair runs from the battery to the 27c, with an auto headlight relay in the circuit. When I operate the boat's accessory switch, that actuates the relay and provides or cuts power to the LCX27c. That avoids the surprise of finding your sonar turned itself on after you put the boat away. The relays are waterproof, cheap and should last nearly forever in this application.

My unit is powered with a switch as well, so I have never had the issue of the unit turning itself on.
