Question Down-rigging for Walleye?

Had the pleasure of attending a hunting and fishing expo last week. While there I learned about a down-rigger and picked one up mostly with Kokanee in mind. Wanted to ask this expert panel if there is a practical use that can be applied to Walleye fishing and a down-rigger?

Tons of guys use down riggers for eyes on the great lakes and on Lake of the woods its the preferred method in mid to late summer.

We use down riggers for more precise depth control. On the Missouri River impoundments, we pull cranks over the trees in summer using both lead core and downriggers trying to get as close to the tree tops as possible. the advantage of downriggers is the fact that they are not effected by speed nearly to the degree that lead core is.

All Summer long in the Central Basin of Lake Erie. Are particularly good when you have younger kids on board who have a difficult time cranking in a big eye attached to a big dipsy out 180 ft. With a downrigger, once the rubber band pops, it just the kid and the fish.

...and on some days, they just seem to work better
