My son and I crossed at International Falls July 21st. He's 10, not 16, so maybe that makes a difference, but the border agent DID ask for the note...

I took my son 2 yrs ago (he was 8 at the time). Nobody asked for a note, but he did have a passport card.

Last year I took my 11 and 17 yr old girls and my dad to Canada fishing. I got asked how do you know each other? I told the lady. She said do you have a permission slip from the mother? I said no, I was unaware I need one. She said she wanted to make sure I wasn't taking them without her permission. I said well that makes perfect sense and I don't know why I didn't think of that. Not thinking it thru I said we can call her. The lady just said I'm going to ask your 11 yr old some questions. She did, my daughter answered and we were golden.

This year same people and he asked about my now 12 yr old if the mother knows she is with me. I said yes and I have a note. He just said no thanks, have fun.

A couple of months ago there was a lot of talk about a one time admission into Canada with a DUI. Did that really happen? I have not seen anything lately on this. I know a guy that had a DUI 3 years ago that was wanting to go this fall.

Default officer friendly?

Seems as though the suits on the CA side have turned over a new leaf .maybe they rid of the dinks. May be why we haven't heard from Jimmy

Used to work security. I had to do a certain amount of searches per day. I guess sometimes it is just your turn!

Default Need to declare gifts for other visitors to Canada?

I am taking some gifts with me to Canada for other people that do not reside in Canada (two are from Mexico, one is from the US). Some of the gifts are valued more than the $60 duty-free limit.

Are gifts for people not residing in Canada subject to duty, etc.? Do I need to indicate yes on the form?

Thanks!
