Exclamation Raffle setup

Starting to set up the Walleye Central Charity Raffle - looks like it may be better than ever. Rather than giving out 100+ "little" prizes and the raffle taking forever like in the past we have arranged groups of prizes together. Waiting on some items from a few of our generous donors but the way it looks currently I expect we will have around 16-18 prize packs that will be valued well over $100 each - some pushing $200+ in retail value. For these prize packages you will have the opportunity to put your raffle tickets into drawings for the specific packages you are interested in. Those tickets will sell for $5 each or 5 for $20.

We also have another 25 or so items/packages that have individual values ranging from at least $100 to $300+ These tickets will sell for $10 each or 5 for $40. The tickets for these prizes will be in one tumbler and when tickets are drawn the winner will come forward and select the prize they want until we are done.

My goal is to get through the entire raffle in 30-45 minutes tops.

40 pounds for a 5 walleye limit is a good day in just about any tournament and normally would put your team “in the money” but in the Fish Huron Ohio Walleye Challenge held Saturday October 5th at the Huron Boat Basin there were 21 teams that weighed over 40 pounds for their 5 fish limit. There were 478 walleye caught during the tournament with a total weight of 3306 pounds and an average weight of 6.92 pounds.

“TEAM BATO” won the tournament with 44.38#. Tony Plue(Sandusky), Chuck DiSanto(Huron), Rocky Callihan(Huron), and Jeff Hewit(Huron) fished about 12 miles Northeast of Huron in a 23 foot Hydra-Sport. They caught 27 fish throughout the day on worm harnesses. Their best color pattern was a Silver Streak “CJ Special” blade behind 3 ounce inline weights between 70 and 80 feet back at 1.8 MPH. They won $5,000 for first place but did not enter the side bet which paid out another $4,725 and went to the 2nd place team of Jason Kopf, Jeff Seyka, and Rockstar. Kopf’s “Team Carnage” had 43.69# and won a total of $8,225 - $3,500 for 2nd place and $4,725 from the side bet. They also reported being within 12 miles of Huron.

A handful of teams gambled on a long run to the East between Ashtabula & Geneva – making 100+ mile one way runs. The third place “Team Missfits” Eric Vandenk and Bob Barnhart made the run and weighed 42.52# good for 3rd place winning a total of $4,075 - $2,500 for 3rd place and $1,575 for the side bet.

The rest of the teams that were “IN THE MONEY” – top 15 places - all reported fishing within 12 miles of the Huron River – most commonly reported location was near the Huron Dumping Grounds and most of the teams reported pulling their fish on worm harnesses and some pulling Reef Runners.

The big walleye of the tournament was caught by “Team Medina Plating” of John Wagner, Shawn Ritchie, & Jim Swick. They won $1,200 for the 11.08 pound walleye. There were 11 walleye over 10 pounds brought to the scales.

The tournament paid out a total of $29,650 with the addition of the side bet and the Walleye Central Bragging Rights Big Fish payouts.

During the Friday night dinner & raffle over $7,000 was raised for charity. The funds will go to two different Wounded Warriors organizations and also to the Outreach Walleye Club.
