Default Best Overall Big Game Rifle/Cartridge In Your Opinion?

Just a thread for some fun. What rifle/cartridge would you choose if you could only use one, to hunt all North American big game. Just to avoid the obvious you MAY NOT pick a 30-06Springfield or 308Winchester. And yes, all North American big game includes the large bears.

.300 Win. Mag, or .300 WSM.
It still has the versatility of the .30 Cal. bullet selection, and can be down loaded to equal 30-06 ballistics or up to its full potential that makes it a magnum.

x2 on the 300 Winchester... and don't forget for the non-reloaders, 300 Winchester ammo is everywhere and relatively inexpensive to buy.

Even though I don't own one, I'm a big fan of the 300 Winchester. It's very versatile and essentially an 30-06 on steroids. Maybe one day my wife will let me buy one.

FYI, they are both Winchesters. Which one are you talking about?

Sportdog, for a less controversial subject, please see the Mall of America protest thread in General Discussion....

For my money, it's be a .308 or a 30-06. Readily available, capable of anything on the N American continent with the right load, and almost every manufacturer of long guns chambers these calibers in right and left hand actions.
