I have been fishing Penn reels since the 70's. Bought a Supreme a couple years ago and now have three. You can't go wrong.

i guess at 75 its a pretty good reel, i would NEVER pay retail for a pflueger though. i did that with a patriarch a couple years ago, and while there isnt really anything wrong with the reel, it has never been as smooth or refined feeling as my Daiwas, dollar for dollar i would buy a daiwa over a pflueger any day of the week.

that is unless we are talking about an ultra light reel, as daiwa is severly lacking in the 1000 size market in the US (JDM is a different story though!)

Default Purist

Cabela's also has the Pflueger Purist on sale for $59.00. That's the normal price of the President. I was a President guy until I found the Purist on sale and I now have 5 of them. It's really a nice reel at that price.

I too switched from Shimano when the Symetre went from 59 to 79-89 and now pushing a hundred. I now have two Presidents and one like you have your eyes on..... I like em!

Did the same thing, they were $74.99 on Black Friday, then $79.99 after Christmas. I have several of the XTs (25,30, and 35 sizes) and love them! Not sure what the difference is between this year's and last year's model, all of mine are the older style.

Upgraded from President's to the XTs and haven't looked back. That said, would have a tough time justifying $149 for any reel, but love the $75 price.

They had last years model Supreme MG on sale a couple of weeks ago at $59 as well.

Port thanks a thought, the Purist is a good reel. But what I look for is the largest spool diameter reel that weighs 7 ounces of less. Particularly important for pitching baits jigs whatever with spinning reels is wider spool diameter.

For example my rigging rods:

Diawa SS 700 Tournament Reels, solid drag. A reel without the ball bearings like others but you don't need them when rigging. I don't put over 75 yards or even less line on the spool.

For my jigging or casting spinning set ups.

Diawa Steez 2500 series.
Pflueger Supremes 30 series reels

The added expense is due to lighter weight reel frame/housing and more ball bearings.

Should add I like reel covers. Keep sunlight off the line and cushions the reel if it gets knocked around.

Fortunate here to have someone that will fix reels for $5.00 plus parts. So I find deals on used and have him go through the reels.
