Default noise from Ford F150

Starting all of a sudden this morning I am hearing a strange noise from behind the drivers side front tire. We got some snow so four wheel drive was used on the way into town. The noise happens while turning the wheel or when going over small bumps in the road. Kind of sounds like "rubber rubbing on metal" , a squeak similar to that.

I can push up and down on the running board to create the sound and was able to pinpoint it to somewhere behind the tire.

Any and all ideas and solutions are appreciated!!

Thank you.

Sounds like some ice is wedged between the fender/rocker and the running board. Run it through the car wash and see if it goes away. if not then perhaps the running board is loose or maybe something has rusted out like the bottom of the fender or the running board mount.

My F150 makes all kinds of noises, but sorry that's not one of them...yet.

Not sure what that might be.

that's what I was hoping but the sound is coming from behind the tire. I only mentioned the running board because if I stand on it and move up and down I can create the noise (simulating a bumpy road)

Thanks!

I got an 01 150 that makes plenty of noises too including that one. Its what I get for buying a Ford. One good thing about my pickup is that it is completely unwilling to let some awkward burping and farting(thats how I characterise these noises) stay it from its appointed rounds. I also have spent several hunnerd dollars on premium car washes over the years so the thing looks better then when I bought it. I figure it`ll last me another four years and then I will have to buy another one.

To answer your question I have no idea what that noise is.

I have a 2002 Ford F150 and my brother has a 2000 Ford F150, they both make a loud clunk when turning and hitting bump. It is an awful sound, but it has caused no problems as far as we can tell.

It is a good truck, albeit noisy...but good.

There are bolts with rubber bushing on both ends they hold up the ends of the torsion bar. They rust out and break. And they clunk on the frame when they are broke.I have changed both sides.About $7.00 ea Good luck

Working at a Ford Dealership, I get to diagnose all kinds of different noises. If your vehicle has any amount of miles on it, it is probably a lower ball joint. Does it make the noise when you turn the wheel????

I agree. I just had mine replaced. The mechanic told me I was one bad railroad crossing away from it breaking.

Don't let it go too much longer.

THere is some noise when I turn the wheel but it is much worse when I move the truck up and down (standing on the running board)...someone mentioned a dry ball joint. How much to have this ball joint fixed or replaced?

Thanks
