I've never been a believer in brand names, and those Sam's Club shirts do work well. Last year I bought an Under Armour t-shirt and a North Face pair of zip off pants. They are THE most comfortable clothes I've ever owned, especially the pants. I just might be starting to believe in name brands again.

to answer your question, sunblock fabric long-sleved shirts are very cool. Think of them as providing shade. The brimmed hat and all that REW mentioned help a lot, i.e. light colored cotton casual slacks are much better than blue jeans.

The DE103 is that hat I wear. I'm not sure if it's better or worse than others but it is nice and cool, comfortable and affordable.

Dorfman Pacific is the company.

Either long sleeved blue work shirts that have been washed a few hundred times, or the light brown shirts that Cabela's sells, add light sweat pants and a wide brimmed hat.

I usually add sun block before I get my outer clothes on and reapply during the day.

I'll also put the top up on the boat when I can or use an umbrella.

Drinking lots of liquids helps too.

A fellow fisherman turned me onto this, and it is AMAZING. Keeps you cooler all day because you are in the shade. Dunk it in water for more cooling. When it gets dirty run it through the washing machine. It floats in case it gets blown off, you can fold it up and stuff it in a pocket.

Every fisherman should have one...I will not fish without it.

I use it and sunblock on my arms and legs, but I need the sunblock less because a large portion of me is in the shade due to the HOUS (hat of unusual size)

I was famous one summer when I fished a lake a lot...people started telling others to look for the guy in the little boat with the huge hat!
I use the same hat, I seen one on Rick Clunn's head. It's not a fashion statement but it works well.

+1 on the long sleeve Columbia fishing shirts and brimmed hat.

This year I'm going to try fingerless gloves to keep the backs of my hands from frying.

Thankfully I don't have fair skin so this seem to be sufficient for me most days on the water.

The wife got diagnosed with skin cancer last summer so as you can imagine we are extra aware of avoiding the sun when we can.

Anyone have experience with the "BUFF" products? I picked up a few gaiters and a pair of their gloves late last season so they never got a "trial by fire".

I had some problems with skin cancer on my face last year so was thinking about ordering a bimini top and trying to install it. I have a lund explorer and looks like I can purchase a decent top for around 400-450 range. Its either that or give up on fishing and just give my boat to my son-in-law and grandson and they can enjoy it. I always try to wear a ball cap and lotion but I think the top would sure help alot. Take Care

I wear a wide brim, vented Tilley air flow hat. Then as a shirt, a white colored, long sleeve, collared version of: http://www.thewinningteam.com/page/fishing.

I have two of these. They are made by Natural Gear. Nice shirts.
