Garrison Area

I am going to be in Garrison the 17th-20th. As much as I want to get into the walleye on Mille Lacs I would also like to find some crappies/bluegill/perch in some of the surrounding smaller lakes. I have fished Smith lake and Farm Island a few times before but always during open water. Any suggestions or hints? Thanks
