B-load vs. C-load trailer tires
I just purchased a set of ST175/80R-13 Goodyear Marathon tires for my Shorelandr trailer. The specs for the trailer call for a B-load tire. The trailer is rated for 1500 lbs. My Crestliner boat and 60HP Johnson, along with anchor, other accessories, and a tank of gas leaves me with a little cushion, but not alot. As a result I decided to purchase the same tires with a C load rating. I was told the tires are the same size. After mounting the tires myself, I noticed there wasn't much clearance between the outside edge of the tire and the outer edge of the fender. There is plenty of clearance elsewhere under the fender, but only about 3/4 inches at the very outside edge of the fender. After checking out the specs for the B-load and C-load tires, I found out that they indeed have the same diameter (24 inches). However, the C-load tire is 0.8 inches wider (7 inches vs. 6.2 inches). This extra width is causing the tight fit between the outside edge of the fender and the tire. Again, I still have about 3/4 inches, but it would be roughly 1.5 inches with the recommended tire size. Should I be concerned enough about this tight fit to take the tires back and exchange them for the B-load Marathons (I haven't driven the trailer since mounting the new tires), or can I get by with the present situation? I don't know much about adjusting fenders, but maybe that is also an option. I'd like to keep the C-load tires unless it is a clear mistake. Any advice on this would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.

RE: B-load vs. C-load trailer tires
I have the C load range tires on my Shoreland'r with my
Tyee and only have about 1 inch of clearance to the fenders. 7500 miles on the rig and no problems with the tires rubbing the fenders. Just keep the tire inflated properly. |

RE: B-load vs. C-load trailer tires
You are much better off with the c-range tires as they can carry much more weight and the clerance should not be a problem

RE: B-load vs. C-load trailer tires
You will only gain 0.4" of extra clearance. That 0.8" is spread over both sides.
