54.8 lbs. Musky Netted in Mille Lacs
Minneapolis Star Tribune 7 Apr 2012
Record muskie netted? Chippewa band members netting walleyes on Lake Mille Lacs last week caught a 54.8-pound muskie, which would have been a state record, had it been caught with hook and line. DNR officials didn't see the fish, but it was recorded on the band's daily harvest report. They also don't know if the fish was weighed on a certified scale, or what was done with it. http://www.startribune.com/sports/ou...146507805.html Last edited by kamikaze_bros; 04-08-2012 at 09:12 AM. |

That's a big fish. There have been a few caught over the years that would have come close to or surpassed the record, but they were released.

Out of season and maybe filled with eggs? doesnt mean it would be a state record later in the year. I guess we will never know as it looked dead in the picture I saw of it. Question is someone going to eat this fish or toss it

Netted Muskie
This is the Netted Record Muskie from Mille lacs full of Spawn dont think it would be a record caught after it dropped the eggs. But maybe close anyway I would love to have caught it during the season on light tackle.

Against The Odds...
Thanks for posting the photo. It's a beautiful fish that made it to that size against incredible odds--too bad it had to die in a net! It's not the only casualty though, imagine all of the fry it would have added to the system if allowed to spawn.

Walleye are a VERY VERY small portion of a muskies diet!

Funny how this musky eating all the walleye still continues. Musky tend to make fish without a large dorsel fin their prey. Find articles written by Jordan Weeks a pretty highly thought of Fisheries Biologist in Wisconsin.
