Default Saskatchewan 2013 waterfowl hunting license-what a fiasco!

For those of you still waiting for your 2013 Saskatchewan hunting license, there is hope.

I bought my license over the phone early the afternoon of Aug. 6, the very first day 2013 licenses went on sale. Found myself talking to someone in Nashville, Tennessee.

Everything showed up in the mail today, sent from the new Tennessee fulfillment center. The envelope was hand-addressed, postmarked "Presorted First Class Aug. 14, 2013 $1.394". On the back of the envelope it is also postmarked "Aug. 27, 2013 $0.32". Apparently the letter sat somewhere for 2 weeks because the fulfillment center didn't put on enough postage the first time...

My hunting partner, who gets his mail from the same Post Office I do and ordered his license 1 hour after I ordered mine- nothing in the mail today.

The letter contained the all-important (and brand new this season) "LEDGER" with the ledger number that is required in order to buy a license. I really feel sorry for the poor guys who bought their licenses over the phone (or worse yet on the internet) and planned to hunt opening day, Sept. 1. If their envelopes don't show up in the mail tomorrow...

There is much more to this, but suffice to say I'm relieved to have the complete license in hand and not impressed with the latest episode of Saskatchewan's hunting license acquisition procedures.

Probably some entertainment in more of my story.

I first tried buying the Saskatchewan license on their web site, morning of Aug. 6, fisrt day of 2013 license sales. This is the first year you could do an internet purchase and then you could print the license immediately- COOL!!

That process came to a sudden halt when I had to enter the "Ledger Number". Huh? Well, it said I could enter last year's ledger number- only catch being there were no ledger numbers last year...

So, after trying to figure this out for a good half hour, I call the 800 number and talk to someone with a very non-Canadian accent in Nashville. "Oh- you can get the ledger at any Saskatchewan Ministry office (except, I don't live in Canada) or ask us to send you one by mail. Once you have the ledger, you can order the license on-line." Ooooookay, how long does it take to get the ledger? "6-8 weeks." WHAT!!! 6-8 WEEKS? THE SEASON STARTS IN LESS THAN 4 WEEKS!!!

"No problem, I can sell you both the ledger and hunting license over the phone." Oh, ok- let's do that. OK, we're done, when will I get the license? "6-8 weeks" WHAT!!!!!! Surely this must be wrong.

So, I call back 2 hours later, hoping to get someone with a better answer. I ask when I'll get the license. "7-10 working days" Huh? Didn't I hear 6-8 weeks just 2 hours ago? "Yes, but we had a meeting 12 minutes ago and were told the right answer is 7-10 working days."

Alllllrighty then...

See rest of story above...

Update- My hunting partner got his license the day after I got mine. Almost didn't recognize it, as the return address is Nashville, TN. It was post-marked just like mine- twice, with more postage added the second time.

Looks like we'll be hunting. Glad have a few weeks left before we go.

My hunting partner got another envelope from the Tennessee Fulfillment Center, on Saturday.

This one was machine-addressed, only one postmark and marked on the outside "Contains hunting license documents".

Inside were 4 consecutively-numbered ledgers and nothing else. He already received the ledger numbered to match his license in an earlier mailing.

Checked my Saturday mail and found I had an envelope with 2 new Saskatchewan ledgers and a letter of explanation, which didn't explain much. Guess I'll save them for next year,

I believe Ontario uses the same folks. We have had problems also. In the name of lower costs and outsourcing they have made royal mess.

A "royal mess"? I don't blame the Queen. Just kidding.

Update- the whole license-purchasing experience was poor, but the rest of the trip was great! Border crossings into Canada and back to USA, the border agents were courteous, professional and didn't keep us very long. The hunting was better than average- and average is way better than anything I can find at home! We brought home our full allowance of dark geese and ducks. The local food kitchen got a nice delivery of cleaned, frozen waterfowl breast filets, something they always appreciate. I'm experimenting with smoking goose breasts and expt. #1 produced excellent smoked goose sandwiches.

Looking forward to the 2014 Canada waterfowl season.

LOL.... sounds like the trouble a friend of mine who works for Lund had getting his passport renewed.
He is Canadian.
He works in Canada and the States, both. His passport was getting to the renewal point and he applied for renewal the first day they would allow.
His passport did not get to him in time to attend the Lund Dealer meeting.

BTW- Tennessee was not involved...just Canada .
