Default Cabelas Depthmaster - Slow line release

I do a fair amount of trolling and recently picked up some Cabelas Depthmaster line counter combos. I like them but they seem to be very slow releasing line. Is there some adjustment or anything I can do? Thanks for any info.

Should be a little "knob" on the side of the reel behind the handle/drag. Loosen that up a bit and you should be good.

I have loosened it up as much as possible with little change.

In that case, I don't know. That's what I've done on every single casting/trolling reel I've ever owned and it works on mine. I doubt there are internal brakes on those reels, but you could pop the side plate off and remove the spool and see if there are centrifugal pin brakes in there. If so, flip them off.

Do you have the clicker on? Turn the clicker off when releasing line and keep your thumb on the spool to avoid a mess.

I do not have the clicker on. I like the setups but my others take a lot less time to get line out. I'll just have to get used to it.

i run a little bit faster until i get the amount of line out i want, then slow to trolling speed
gotta keep an eye on things, though, to avoid backlashes, especially with lead

There must be a problem then. That is the spool tension knob. if it is loose there should be side to side play on the spool. Should spin freely unless something else is rubbing the spool. Bob
