Could anyone tell me what the material is they use in the western basis of Lake Erie to tie purple hair jigs and where can I purchase some?

Most of what I have seen are Buck Tail. Jann's netcraft in Muamee carries the materials you need to make them.

I'm guessing bucktail. Jann's Netcraft, Angler's Workshop, any good fly shop, will carry hair for tying.
Could also be using any one of a number of hairs. Rabbit, calftail, any number of synthetics... Matt Davis Better to have and not need than to need and not have! |

RE: Purple Hair Jigs
I tied up a bunch of purple hair jigs for a guy going to Erie last year. They were made of bucktail, with a little Krystal Flash for an accent. In the past, I have tied them for guys using bucktail, fishhair, krytal flash, craft hair and marabou. I think color is more important than material. The different materials do definitely have different actions in the water, though.

I made up some last year - they worked pretty well. Used the white buck tail and dyed it purple with Ritz dye.

RE: Purple Hair Jigs
I found these to be very high quality bucktail jigs. They come in all colors.
