If the new driver only drives a beater, maybe in their own name, you can take a exclusion on other vehicles provided that the new driver never drives them because there will now be no coverage for them.

We have State Farm, we saved a goodly amount by having my boys take the "Steer Clear" program and have their grades at a B ave. or better.

My 16 year old was added to our policy about 6 months ago. My agent changed my policy to remove my "classic car" thus getting my coverage down to 2 cars. With my wife and I put down as primary drivers my son was not considered as a primary on either car keeping the increase down quite a bit.

If they are on your policy, for added liability protection to your retirement or cash nest-egg, get yourself an umbrella liability policy that will cover all vehicles within the home. It only takes one a-hole that will try to milk the system for everything you have.
$1M coverage with three autos and a boat can be purchased for around $120 a year from state farm if you have other policies with them.
This premium also includes the lawyers from the insurance company working on your behalf.
"I used the $1m as an example as the policies are sold by $1M increments."

Some policies specifically exclude coverage on other covered vehicles within the household. My policy is written that way. No coverage at all when daughter drives my or my wifes car. Just hers.

My son turns 16 in a month, and from what I've been told by insurance agents it doesn't matter if he is on my policy or get him his own - my rate is still going UP. He lives here and there is always the chance he will drive one of my cars so my rates rise. We have State Farm and he has done the Steer Clear program, gets straight A's , and will have a 10yr old 4 cyl. car, so I'm hoping the increase will not be too astronomical.

Is there also insurance for young drivers like me? Do you know any company offering that kind of insurance term?

Default Thanks to all for the input

We use S.F. now - agent got us linked up with the discounts for good grades and on-line review and contract - put him on the least valued vehicle.......~$225.00/six months.

Now to assure he and his mother stop whacking all the deer in the area with the vehicles
