Main to kicker connection with BayStar Hyd. Steering?

Currently I have just the cheapo threaded rod set up (with noise makers at both ends) connecting my Yamaha T9.9 with my Yamaha F150. To say this set up rattles is an understatement.

How do you get around the rattle? Is there a better way to connect the kicker to the main engine?

(Note: "electro" steering or auto-pilot for the kicker is not in the budget.)

I added one of these this year. I too got tired of listening to the bar rattle!

I have the threaded rod set up and I would have the rattle. My fix was to use a piece of urathane soft foam I had that was about 1/8" thick and use gasket punches to make a doughnut that fit inside the coupler. I had to push down on the coupler to make the connection. So far so good. If this will not stay I have a mini bungy cord that I can put over the rod and down to the kicker motor bracket to keep a little pressure on it.

I've seen a number of guys put a rubber fuel hose over the rod portion of the threaded link. I had one that way as well. It does help a bunch with the rattles. I don't recall what size hose you need, that was a few years ago.

One thing I have seen though is that you get a greater range from your kicker steering. Did a trial on the showroom floor and didnt see much loss of range.

Hey Moose, did you ever get this figured out? The seastar cable system mentioned looks really nice; but the website also says it's got compatible with the Baystar system. I have Baystar, DANG!

i put some rubber fuel hose over the threaded rod, 3/8 i think. no more rattle. cost about $2.
