Default HB 1197 questions

I am purchasing a boat with one 1197 on the console and I want to put another big unit on the bow. My options are to put a 1158 up front or get a 1198 for the console and move the 1197 to the bow. My questions are

What is the advantage of a 1197/1198 combo Vs a 1197/1158 combo? My main concern is being able to run the downfire from the bow.

You cannot get the advantage of the SI/DI without the SI/DI transducer. So unless you hang that honking transducer on your trolling motor there is no point in putting the 1197 on the bow.

Ideally you would want to put an 1198 at the helm and sell the 1197 and buy an 1158 with the money from the sale. The XXX8 series can ethernet together while you need an interlink to connect an XXX7 to an XXX8. I am not impressed with the interlink system.

With a 1198/1158 combo will I be able to read the DI (from the SI/DI transducer on the rear of the boat) on the front graph? I am not interested in looking at SI from the front.

I am not sure. Jason Halfen could answer that. I'm not sure what the ethernet connection will allow.

If you search FAQ's on humminbirds site, you will find the complete matrix of compatible units.

Here is the link.

It looks like only 2d sonar will share. I have an 898si on the bow. Next purchase is an 1198 for my console.

Good luck.

Nick

Thanks for that link. It looks like a 1197/1198 combo is the way to go.
