Canadian Deer Hunt

I see some of you have had good and bad hunts in Canada,I live and hunt in Minnesota and also have hunted the western states have taken several trophies,I play the tag game, applying for years to get that special tag for my daughter or son or myself,I have considered Saskat,alberta and ont.just because you can get a tag,I love spot and stock,dont think much of sitting in a blind or stand for several days.So my question is has anyone found that great canadian experience of deer hunting with some stand hunting and spot and stock with a reliable outfitter that is fair game hunt? With the chance at 160+ wt or 180+ md, I have come home with many unfilled tags.Thanks

Number 1 you must have a registered guide. Number two good luck trying spot and stalk in millions of acres of bush. Your chances of stumbling around and finding the deer your looking for are zero to none. To shoot a 180 class deer are rare even for locals who know where there are. I applaud you for wanting to bring your kids along. For a guided hunt on the cheap scale is $3500.00 PER PERSON. There are no garentees you will even see a deer.

Sorry,not taking the kids,just outlining what we do{not being new} I know you need a licensed guide,Hoping to find an area in the transtional zone between forest and farm land,and finding a honest guide in those areas is what I'm looking for,If someone wants info on good guides and outfits for wyoming,utah,montana,south dakota,for deer or elk,I can help, I dont think I have another 25 yrs to figure out canada. Thanks

You don't need a guide once your in a ways in Ontario. If you want to hunt the farmland and bush border you'll need one. We had a camp in Finland right on the fri ge of farmland. We tried feeders & cameras to see what we had up there and weren't impressed. We now hunt further north but in 14 years have never seen a gagged much less shot anything decent. You can spot and stalk actually my partner took his buck the last two years like that, but good luck getting that thing out of the rock cliffs, downfalls etc!! Also you'll run into more people from Tenn, Maine, Penns., New Hampshire etc. than locals at all the local stores! Now to top it off the herd is down 60-70% from 2010. Good Luck ! Dclhomes

Have some friends that used to go to Sask every year. All stand hunting. Many 160"+ deer to show off.

for a mule deer your chances are very good in Southern Alberta particulary around Medicine Hat Alberta, spot and stalk is the method,, also southern Sask is good for Mule deer but I am not sure about N/R non canadien hunters in South Sask..
