Default Sonar classes?

I have decided to bit the bullet and purchase new HB 1198 for my bay boat but have only used the very basic fish finders. I have never heard of a fish finder class but if there are any in mid Michigan I would be interested in knowing about it. Have checked Bass Pro and Cabela's but they are not is stock yet. I have also looked on the net for insturctional cd's but nothing yet. Price seems to be $2800. Is there anything else that will be needed? I plan on a dedicated fused circuit.

My 2010 Humminbird seminar is available as a free streaming web video:

http://www.jasonhalfenoutdoors.com/2010seminars.html

This will give you some of the basics of image interpretation for both Side Imaging and Down Imaging in your Humminbird 1198. Congrats on joining the Humminbird family!

Depending on where your at in the State of Michigan, Lance Valentine offers some really good, one day, hand on GPS/Sonar classes, not sure on the cost any more. He does use Lowrance though, but I'd suspect it could be useful for you. His web site is:

Good luck.

I'm in the same spot as you, I have the 998 and while the book explains everything I need to know, I'm more of a hands on guy and need to play with the buttons to discover all the functions. I've read my owners manual several times and understand the basics but have yet to learn how to make the HB really work for me. I spoke with Hb and asked them about videos or cd's for those of us who have a need for hands on instead of reading, and contacted Joby from their website, he emailed me and said they now are located on facebook, I haven't been there, but he said go to the HB friend area and they now have short takes you can watch to explain how to make your HB more friendly to you. I have a thirst for knowledge but get frustrated when simple things escape me, maybe the Fb site will give me peace of mind.
