Default Backing up Waypoints II - Albe, Doc or anyone?

Followed Albe's reply to my previous post and bought a Sandisk card. Slipped it in my Lowrance 3500 and it transferred the data fine. Put it in my card reader and it kept saying that there was no disk. Went to Radio Shack and they said I needed a different type of card reader, so I bought it. Now it recognizes that the card is there (11 kb) but says Windows doesn't recognize that type of file and can't open it. ?????????????

if you are just trying to save it to your hard drive (and not open it) should should be able to just copy it there. If you want to open it, you will need a program that can read that type of file (I am assuming you are trying to open a .usr file) you need mapcreate, or a program like easy gps or a similar program.

its the same type problem if you are trying to open a Word document and you dont have Word installed on your computer, for example.

Thanks, finally got it accomplished. Although the card showed that it had data, I wanted to be sure it was N 47 29 425 and not @#$%^&*.

If you worried about the backup, download an emulator off of Lowrance's website. Pop in the chip and upload it onto the emulator. That way you can make sure its on there and also study your spots or play with the program and get a better understanding of how to run the unit.
