Actually that 2050 was mine that took on water and any of them with that design will. Wavewackers will help but wont solve the problem. Once the gas caps are under water the water leaks in. Not sure whos bright idea it was to put the fuel caps in the splash well anyway. Thats why they changed it. The T8 was tied into the same tanks but still ran, maybe it drew gas higher in the tank. It ran rough but it ran. They are an OK boat but they are high sided and draw to much wind esspecally with a full windshield and make boat control interesting. I wouldnt buy another one but 22k for a 06 is a good price.

I just got back from looking at it.
On the con side: it needs a good detailing, the console wiring looks like a rats nest, and the electronics are old. Looks a bit bigger than what I am looking for. 101lb Minnkota bow trolling motor is a foot controlled model. Dealer says several people from the upper midwest have expressed interest in it and he thinks they have it priced right, so not a lot of chance for negotiation On the pro side: The hull, carpet, and seating look to be in good shape. The trailer looks in OK shape. There is a MO sticker on the F250, so this boat spent some time in the midwest, so may not have actually ever been in salt water. Appears to have the rear casting deck, not sure if this is optional in this model, but this one has it. Looks to be a good deal for someone that needs a larger walleye boat and is willing to spend a bit for upgraded electronics and maybe a Terrova or Riptide bow motor.

please see my other post
First your kicker is running off a portable tank (as posted by your buddy) now it running off the same pickup as your main power??? You two need to get your stories more sync'd before you start throwing mud..It really takes away from the credibility of things when you cross swords like that!!
As I stated in my first post, I have had my splash well filled with water on several occasions over the last 8 seasons and have had ZERO issues with what you two are trying to describe..And to answer both of your posts, I have yet to say that the Skeeter is the "best" boat made. I merely am pointing out the flaws in your stories and saying that obviously not ALL Skeeters suffer from your allegations...There are a lot of Skeeter hulls out there running around with this fuel fill set up and so far you are the only one who has posted this problem?? I don't think that entitles you to suggest that that any Skeeter with that layout design is going to fail..Have a great day and bash away if you choose.. Quote:

Heres the facts for you Skeeterguys out there. These gas caps in the splashwell are not leak proof !!!!!! A little water in there once in a while might not cause problems but when you try to backtroll into 4+ footers and it stays full you will have problems. 2 other boats that day had the same problem I did. Talking to other Skeeter owners a few had also had that problem and one guy showed me the rags he had stuffed into the lines to help keep water out. I also talked to the dealer and Skeeter about the problem for a possible solution. They both admitted that this was a problem and thats why the moved the gas fills on the new hull design.
I only posted to this in the first place to set the story straight as bdlucas was wrong about haveing a portable tank. He probably thought that because the kicker still ran. The kicker was running rough and I had to keep it half chocked to keep it running. The main motor wouldnt run because the fuel/water seperators were full of water. |

Bow mounts dont work that well in 4+ footers either unless you have a big fat guy sitting up front. lol

I ran a 2005 ZX2050 for a couple seasons. Fished in some very rough conditions (Lake Michigan and Green Bay) on multiple occasions and never had a single problem with water in fuel. Admittedly, about the only time my boat is going backwards is when it's coming off the trailer. Can't comment on how it performs as a backtroller. I can say it's one of the absolute best multi species boats for forward trolling on big water.
