Default Humminbird Mount

I just installed a new 597 on my boat. I had a question on the mounting system. It swivels around fine, but the tilt is locked. (hope that made sense.) I didn't want to force it and thought I would ask first. Is it supposed to be able to tilt? I would assume so to allow for screen tilt.
Thanks.

Can't wait to try this thing out. We are finally getting open water in Iowa.

yes, it should tilt. Mine does. Just use a little more pressure. I'm also surprised at how much force it takes to get the quick-release to dis-engage.

Thanks. I just didn't want to break something. Plus its still cold here (some days) and the cold plastic can crack easily. I'll ease into it. Yeah, the quick release is a little tight on mine too. Guess I'd rather have it tight than too loose. Seeing my new unit bounce off into the drink would make for a bad day.

Gave it a little pressure today and it moved position. Whew! Should be ready to get the boat out this coming weekend on the mighty Miss!

I have another mount question. This one is not about the head mount but the transducer mount. If I understand the instructions right you are supposed to add a 4th screw to lock the mount down. Is this right??? It seems to me to be a good way to break your mount or transducer.

The fourth is "optional". I actually just put in screw #3 today. It is now locked into place, but would allow for the transducer to flip up if enough force was applied. I'm ok with that, giving it a little "give" if it hit something. I could then just snap it back into place.

I took the 4th screw back out today. I hope that it will stay down with out it. I sure dont like "locking" it down.

The new 597's don't come with the kick up transducer mount,at least mine didn't. I ordered the kick up one from Humminbird and installed that.

Well with out the 4th screw my transducer wont stay down. I tried it today and when I would get up to 18-20 mph it would pop up.

I think what I have is the pop up mount . It looks just like the 2 piece on on the HB web site.
