I used HRG's idea also, for mounting my 998 SI transducer. Works great.

Good point Steve. I was hoping to go with just the transducer that came with the 998. I have heard sometimes another transducer is necessary for higher speeds. It is possible I'd add the standard sonar transducer later, if needed. Will that make a difference? I suppose worse case scenario I end up putting in two screws below the water line to secure it.

I thought you were talking about additional drag. I was planning on going 12 inches wide. I think this should give me some flexibility down the line.
