I have purchased some nice binocs and a cheaper spotting scope. I don't know if I will end up using the scope or not, but I'll bring it along. Looks like we'll have three days for scouting, so maybe it will be useful then.

It's still 6 weeks away, but I am very pumped for the trip. Rifle is "rough" sighted in, boots are being broken in.

The only real problem I'm having is trying to find a map chip that will work with my Lowrance H20 GPS. It isn't a deal breaker, but it would be nice to have.

Awesome, the last few weeks are the worst. Get that rifle dialed in. Having confidnece in your shooting will be huge. Of course getting those boots ready is huge as well. Blisters will ruin a trip fast.

Wish I was headed out west this year. I guess I will have to live through your stories this year.

Was out in the Routt last week scouting for this years hunt and doing some fly fishing. It has been very dry there this year. Water will be an issue. Had a frost on 8/20/2012 and coming home through North Park by Walden it was 27 deg. F at 6:30 am so fall is coming. They had a very mild winter there last year so not much of any winter kill. Aspens are starting to turn yellow. Deer are doing very well in the Routt now after some tough years. Will you have a deer tag?

Default Deer Tag?

I do not get to hunt this year due to deployment, but I have hunted that area for years. Plenty of great bucks in 2011 and like usual no deer tag when you see them. All were up past Pearl CO out of Walden. Took a great 6x6 and the two other guys 6x6 and 6x5. Two cow's taken as well. This was all late into bow season (after Sept 15th) I am missing it for sure this year! Got a great photo of a 7x8 that I have been after since I missed him in 2009 standing next to a road three weeks ago when the guys went scouting. Best of luck to you for sure! Just hope they are vocal, or the snow gets bad and kicks them down to a lower elevation for ya!

No deer tag. Thanks for the report, bigbear.
