Home made jigging raps

I have been making my own jigging raps for the last three years and have gotten them to where they swim very nicely. I changed the style of the front and rear hook to an aberdeen jig hook that is considerably larger than the stock hooks they come with and found that I have a better hooking percentage and far fewer fish shaking the hooks boatside. I have been using a cross lock snap molded into the body for the treble hook hanger and line tie eyelet. The treble I use is a mustad that only two of the hooks are brazed together allowing you to spread them apart so they can be slipped on your lure with out a split ring. Alot of the blade baits on the market use these. They work but in my opinion are a bit week and you need to bee careful unhooking fish or you will bend them out of shape fairly easily. I have tried a split ring and other trebles and had too much trouble with the hook fouling on the back of the lure. My question is if any one would know where to order the "hook hanger/line tie that rapala and some of the other manufacturers use in theirs. thanks Rob

I am not a real tech savy guy so I will have to wait until my son comes home in a couple of weeks in order to get some photos posted on here. The lures actually turned out quite nice and they do in fact catch walleyes and crappies very well. All I did was take a good lure and in my opinion made it better. Photos to come when available. I am very interested at looking at your finished product also. The bottom hook hanger should be some what easy to figure out. I am interested in how you made or fabricated the tail fin? I can not wait to see pics! Happy tackle building to all.

I finally got some pictures of my version of the jigging rap. Like I said before, all I did was take a good lure and in my opinion made it better. The first photo shows the difference in the front and rear hooks on mine verses the original. The rest are just some of the paint schemes that are working for me. I use powder paint on them so the paint jobs aren't quite as pretty as if I had an air brush but the fish don't seem to care much. I feel the larger hooks make a huge difference in the number of lost fish. It was a lot of fun, although a bit challenging at times coming up with a mold and coming up with tails that worked but in the end worth it in every way.

I can't say for sure but I would have to think a "no-knot, fast snap" is very close to what is used in the original raps.
