Default What prop on a 250 Verado

Here is my deal - I have a 250 verado with a 21P 4 blade Rev prop. I plan on picking up a "spare" prop and debating if I should go with something different or keep the same. Here is my current situation:

- Great hole shot - within 2 seconds.
- Max RPM 5900 at 58-60 mph.
- Very nice cruise speed, even in rough conditions, creates great bow lift.
- Motor Mounted in the middle hole of a 5 hole system.
- All plugs in prop.

I believe the max RPM for this motor is closer to the 6400 or 6500 mark. It would be nice to get a little closer, as I have heard not reaching max rpm is not good for the motor. The 4 blade is great on this boat. It did have a 3 blade 23P prop and that was too much for the motor. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry - 2005 Crestliner 202 - motor same vintage. No back trolling or anything else funky.

Same boat, different motor...I have a 2006 202 w/ 225 ProXS. Have tried several different props, including a 19P Rev4, but always go back to a Tempest. 202's have no trouble with bow lift, and the Tempest provides plenty. I typically run a 19P, and get 53-54mph at 5700-5800 RPM. With the 21P, and the way the boat is currently loaded, I only get ~5400 RPM's, but see about a ~1.5mph increase in top end. No appreciable difference in the way the boat performs between the two (hole shot is very quick either way), so I run the 19P to keep WOT RPM's up.

When I ran the 19P REV 4, RPM's were similar to my 21P Tempest, but I couldn't break 50mph to save my life. I also felt I had less trim adjustment than w/ the Tempest.

I'm surprised you are getting 58-60mph w/ a Rev 4. Hard for me to believe the #'s could get any better than that. But, I'd try a 21P Tempest out of curiousity.

Eyeguy - that speed is with about 1/3 tank, just me, livewell empty. Once I load it down, I am in the 55 mph range wide open.

So you are thinking the 21 tempest? What is the rule of thumb going from a 4 blade to 3 blade in RPM's?

I looked it up - target RPM 5800-6400. So I am on the low end.

If you like the way the REV4 handles I would get it in a 19 pitch that will bring your rpms up another 400, and you should be able to run real close to the same top speed. Otherwise the tempest 21 will be a good fit for you also and will raise your rpms 250 to 300.
