Woolly buggers do resemble leeches. They are considered a go-to fly when there is no obvious food source. Everything eats them.
I use fly fishing tackle, sometimes a sink tip line. Since a bottom bouncer jerks and twitches whatever is behind it, it should work very well.

If you find them, they will come.

Awesome! I am old fly fisherman from Wyoming stuck in Nebraska and have been wondering about this for awhile. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Joe

I've found the leech imitations with a little sparkly dressing in the body and the tail can sometimes produce better than all black ones.

IFish with flys all the time you would be better off pulling a 3way with the bugger. When pulling a bb when u rip it the bb will lay down with a 3waythe line stays tight increasing the action. With the bb u rip the bob and the action is not really transmitted but absorbed

Huh?

Experienced BB fisherman dont "rip" BB's. We rip beer farts. Preferably downwind and, we try to mask it with engine exhaust. 4 strokes make it a challenge. It end ups being somewhat of a perfected art form that requires left arm counter intuitive dexterity and an acute sense of past stinky circulation patterns. Left is wrong except when its right and, stinky sinks unless it doesnt.

Time u tried braid and report back.

Bottom line, you dont yank a BB. One softly raises and lower the rod. Its all about boat/contour control.
