I want to start making my own Bottom Bouncers. 3/4oz to about 2oz should suite me just fine.
Can someone give me some insight as to which mold(s) is going to work the best for me? Also some recommendations for wire. Should i buy the preformed wire with swivels alreaedy installed or make my own from scratch? What tools will i need if i do make them from scratch? Thanks! |

I use a Do-IT trolling sinker mold(STR-4-MED) that makes 3/4,1,1/1/2, and 2 once sinkers. I cut a small notch at the top end of the mold to accommodate the BB wire. This way I can make inline trolling weights and BB weights.
I use .035 and .040 SS wire and bend up my own wire forms. You will need a flat nose pliers and a round nose pliers. <BTW> make sure you make a crinkle in the wire to prevent the weight from slipping on the wire form. Last edited by Bob/MN; 08-21-2012 at 02:00 PM. |

I bought one of these BB molds BTM-5-M it has 5 cavities from 1/2 to 2 oz
I'm holding out searching Fleabay for a 2-3oz model. I like Bob's idea two molds for the price of one is NICE!!! I bought already bent wires on ebay,I was looking at a bender from Hagens but again Bob's idea is a darn good one! FC

Making your own bottom bouncers is a easy task. Make sure to use a hot pot or ladle to fill the mold.
The Do-It BTM-5-M mold should suit your needs, as it will pour 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/2 and 2 oz. sizes. Do-It also makes bottom bouncer wires that will fit right into the mold. They are available in two wire diameters(.035”, and .040”) and the mold will accept both diameters of wire. Last edited by Golden; 08-22-2012 at 01:42 PM. Drilled out my molds (gently clamped them in a vise and used a cordless drill, got machinist's bits that are same size as wire), use 0.045" SS wire. Bend my own forms using a "little blue bender" (came from do-it). Make mine straight (slip) style. Make a loop on top and a #7 crimp from American Fishing Wire.
Use same molds with 0.035" wire to make snap weights. Put a 180 deg bend 1" in from one end of a 6" piece of wire, put that in mold cavity, lead will never come off. Twist loop on top of weight by grabbing wire with vise-grips and wrapping around 5/32" or 3/16" punch clamped in vise. |

Bought the pre made wires, both straight and bobby pin shaped, just was easier and they don't cost that much.
Maybe post where your from and somebody might have the mold near you and ya can work something out? Al
