Trolling Motor Finder Set-Up
Fellow Anglers....
Just got myself into a new(2005) ranger reata 1850 and need to upgrade electronics. My question is this: The down imaging finders look pretty sweet and want to get one on my rig. I can get into one for about $400(5 inch), and could see it fitting into the bow.... either using the Minnkota ducer built into the TM or an external attached ducer to the TM. Would you stay away from doing this type pf placement on the TM, or would you only place a down imaging system on the transom? I've read a bunch of threads about glitchy screens when you are turning the TM during normal use. I can't imagine the down imaging or even regular sonar would read that great when you are moving the trolling motor around? FYI - I have never used a finder on my bow before and my current ducer doesn't work with my TM. Any advice on this would be appreciated. -Aric |

In order to utilize down imaging you have to mount an external transducer...which will work better anyway. The US2 transducer built into Minn Kota motors will only support the conventional dual sonar.
My advice on what locator to buy....if you want Humminbird get something with ethernet built in. There are some really cool things available soon and in the forecast that will be utilizing that feature.
