Fishing report lakes oahe/sharpe pierre area aug 26th to 30th 2016

Oahe continues to be slow with most fish down deep chasing Bait/Lake Herring however this bait is a fall spawner so look for action on the big lake to pick up as cooler fall temps bring the bait back up. Some fish are being taken but generally action is slow. Salmon fishing is a big fish chase but not a numbers bite with boats looking for that one state record bite. Sharpe continues to be the action spot for eater walleye however Sept 1 brings the 15 inch slot limit back so limits of walleye will require more effort. I fished another repeat group Father Glen from Sioux Falls and sons Mike and Stewart Uken from Ida Grove Ia. to full possession limits of walleye on Sharpe. We caught the fish on both minnows and nightcrawlers/bouncers in depths of 10 fow or less and we all had a great time in great weather. A super family bunch of guys. If you are coming up a down side to the fishing on Sharpe is boat traffic. Just a lot of fishermen around and I look for labor day weekend to be even busier. If fishing around a lot of boats bother you Oahe is almost traffic free but the slow bite is the reason. Remember the 15 inch slot limit coming up on Sharpe along with draining boats before you leave the boat ramp area's.
