Default Question on Etec G2

Have seen the specs and info-mercials on Evinrude's site. They have good info regarding increased torque, better fuel economy, less emissions - but I didn't see anything as it relates to sound/noise level. Still the same, louder, quieter?

I saw a video and a review and they said it was at least as quiet at the G1 or better. Our 2006 G1 was much quieter than is our 2009 Merc 175 Opti Pro XS.

My personal bias is that the Opti is far too loud and smokey for me. I think the Etecs have always been a lot less smoke than Otimax and probably a lot quieter too. But compared to a typical 4 stroke I thought the Gen1 was louder. Not terribly but not "whisper-quiet" as they had originally marketed it. A couple friends had put some 60-90 Etecs on their pontoons and were expecting 4 stroke quietness and were pretty disappointed. Was hoping the second generation would be quieter than the first..

The G2 is very comparable to the G1 as far as noise goes...I didn't notice much difference.

Based on my experience with my G1 2006 eTec, if I were to repower I would certainly look at the G2 eTec over my Opti Pro XS that I currently have. I think my Opti is way, way louder than the eTec, doesn't provide any improvement in fuel or oil consumption and has a bunch less moving parts to deconstruct, not that any of mine have done so yet. Also, way easier and less complicated to winterize, don't know why Merec hasn't jumped on this.

Anyone know if/when Gen2 will be offered below 200 hp?
