Default Jigging Rod

I love to jig for walleye from 5 to 15 feet of water. I want to know if fast or extra fast action is better and is M or ML power better for this type of presentation.

If vertical jigging in that depth I'd be using a 1/16 oz to an 1/8 oz jig, so I would use a 6' 3" ML XF. XF is great for vertical jigging, if drifting or trolling with a jig I go to a Fast action rod.

+1 on 1860Angler's comment.

I would even fish this rod choice with a heavier jig, up to 1/4, and do so on a regular basis with a St Croix Avid.

I agree you can't do much better than a St. Croix AVS6'3"MLXF for this application!

you could always go with a Gloomis Mag-Lite, its right between Med-Lite and Medium for power, I prefer x-fast for the action

I've recently changed to these rods by Fenwick and absolutely love them. I prefer the M with Fast action. I can pretty much tell if a walleye sniffs my bait. Last year me and my 2 fishing buddies were jigging a choke point and I out fished them 7 to 1. I almost certain it was because of the rod.

I used to use St. Croix Avids but I think the Fenwicks are a way better plus they are cheaper. Next I want to get one of their rigging rods.

The exact same thing happened with me and my buddy yesterday. He was using more of a rigging rod (7' croix) for vertical jigging.

Outfished him at about that same ratio with my new elite tech.

I handed it to him to try out. He couldn't believe the difference! Said it will be the next rod he'll buy.
