Default Went in thinking Avid, left with a Scheels

I had $200 burning a hole in my pocket, so I called my local Scheels store to see if they had a 6' 6" St Croix Avid in stock. As luck would have it they did, so I pack up my son and wife and off to Scheels we went. Since this will be my second St Croix, I'm thinking I might need to get a St Croix decal for my truck, or at least a new cap to let everyone know I'm a St Croix guy. I found my target in the St Croix rack and begin imagining the faint taps I can feel with this baby. Looking around, I pick up a few others for comparison - Fenwick, Loomis, then a Scheels One, which is their top of the line stick. I was impressed with the Scheels rod. From what I could tell the blank seems comparable with the Avid, but I really liked the guides on the Scheels. They won't bend. I don't know what they're called, but when you compress them down with your thumb, they spring right back in perfect shape. That's pretty cool. Then I start thinking about warranty. I've replaced two Scheels rods in the past - no questions asked. Just bring in the broken rod and walk out with a brand new replacement. The Avid has a 15 year warranty, and you have to mail it in and pay postage. Hmmm.

Next thing I know, I put the Avid back in the rack and I'm paying for the Scheels One. It's a $250 rod but they're 20% off, so the same price as the Avid. I'm paring it with a Shimano CI4. Maybe I'll have to get a Scheels decal now.

Ditto's on the Scheels customer service. Also had similar experiences with Cabela's in East Grand Forks when lived in that area, excellent cs there as well.

I have 3 g-loomis spinning rods. Last spring I was going to set my son with his own g-loomis. I went into Scheels with the intention of walking out with a g-loomis and after picking up the scheels rod I'm hooked.

I ordered two high end ugly stiks(humor) today...for trolling boards.

You win.

Seriously, I don't know if st. Croix makes it anymore but I have a 6'3" extra fast Avid rod that is smoking nice. Super sensitive

Edit: I get free shirts with the ugly stiks I ordered ....plus $4.95 s&h.

....I still don't win.

Into the basket, with all the rest.

That's correct. Avid is lifetime. The Avid X is 15 years, according to the new catalog.
