Finding a good mounting location for Point 1 Ranger 620FS

Finally getting around to addressing the Point 1 mounting location issues(inaccurate heading due to magnetic fields close by)I've had due to the incorrect mounting location near the Verado power steering pump on my 620 FS, I will be covering the old hole with another GPS puck.
Looking for ideas on new spots to try while keeping it as close as possible to transducer location. I was thinking maybe mounting to port side rear access panel, but kicker is close and it washes with water every time I come off plane so not sure. Testing the magnetic fields in that spot with an iPhone app, seems OK as opposed to where it is now, very strong field.

Any better ideas? Hoping for suggestions, thanks!

I am not sure where your pump is located however here is where the factory installed my Point One on my Ranger 620FS. I have an Etec G2 and for the source for the display they include the Point Onewith the engine install. It works great!

That's exactly where mine is installed, right on top of the Verado ps pump in the compartment below.

Dumb question, can they remount the pump to the other side?

I've thought about that too, but would definitely be easier to move the Point 1 than the pump, so that's the route I'm going. Just need to find a suitable spot in the stern area somewhere.

I mounted mine on the starboard side about 18" in front of the drivers counsel. Its not in the way and seems to work great with no interference.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that location. I would like to keep it close to the rear transducer if possible. Would it be an issue to mount where it will get splashed on when I come off plane? Was looking at maybe mounting to the access panel rear port side in front of the kicker.

The receiver getting wet wont be an issue, it is all enclosed and should have a rubber ring around the bottom of it. I agree with wanting to put the receiver in the back of the boat in fact that was my original plan but I remember when I installed mine in the manual it recommend against mounting the point 1 in the rear of the boat and not on the very front of the bow by the trolling motor. I could understand the bow due to possible interference from the tolling motor however I don't remember why Lawrence suggested against the rear. I have seen a few others mounted towards the back and seem to work for them.

Many guys use double sided tape to test various spots on their boats before permanently mounting it.
