Trailer tires again?
i know that this has been discussed multiple times but doing a search still has me confused.
I was told today on the phone by Maxxis dealer that the Maxxis tires were made in Japan, doing a search on here doesn't reveal that. i want to replace my Marathons this year as they are going into there 4th season with me, bought new boat July 2008. I probably put close to 5000 miles a year on trailer. I have ran Marathons along time 15+ years and have never had an issue. Boat is Skeeter WX2100 tandem axel, approximate weight loaded with fuel and gear is 5000lbs, tire size is ST205/75/R14. What do you suggest?

well, you could also consider the Kumho 857, in the 195/R14 size. Same diameter as your 205/74/14, available in both C & D load range.

Go with the Kumho 857 hands down. . . I made the switch from the marathons and couldn't be happier, I also went with the D range, the heavier rating the better.

It doesn't matter where the tires are made.
The only thing that matters is that the tires are made to the correct load rating, and that they hold up for 6 years while they are on your trailer. Good luck REW |

Just to make things clearer, I just purchased 4 Maxxis trailer tires for my rig and printed on the side is "made in taiwan" for what it is worth.

Are any tires made on the North American Continent anymore. Its really sad. I need some too and the tire guys I talked to say the same thing. Lots of passenger tires are made here but no trailer tires. All China bombs.

Talked to local tire dealer this am and was told Maxxis is on back order. If you don't have them it 6 to 8 weeks minumum. Probably just stick with the Marathons as I have never had any problems before.
