Default pheasant hunting

Anybody been out? I'm hunting SW Minnesota (Nobles county) and it's been fairly slow around here. The farmers are just starting to harvest corn so hopefully it will pick up. Most of the birds we're seeing are older roosters from last year. They didn't get any dumber over winter. How's everybody else doing?

In rock county it has been tough. I have been in Pipestone county and that has been a little better. The young dumb ones are harvested. The birds are educated by now. They leave the grass before 9:00 and return after sunset. When more corn is harvested, I hope it will improve.

Hunted the opener in South Dakota and did well but it was slower than normal due to most of the crops were still in. Here in Michigan, I went out once when I got back from SD and shot one and had a couple flush wild. The corn is coming off now so that should help some here. Heading back to SD in mid December, looking forward to the late season there.

Lots of corn and beans still up, have to catch 'em in the roosting covers.

Around here, better, but still a lot of crops in the field.

Hopefully things will be better (and cooler) by the weekend.

Opener was tough, lots of cover! We still got a few, had a good time like we always do. The fields are turning black now, 75%+ of the crops are off now and the hunting has greatly improved. Last weekend their was lots of shots, lots of birds. Nice to able to watch the dogs work as well, pretty much every ditch and roosting cover held birds. I'll be hitting it pretty hard the rest of the season, like I always do late season. Lots of birds around here but you need permission on private land...the public land has been hammered, the birds for the most part have moved out of those pieces. I have a few spots that I need to go hit around home that havn't been hunted yet this year...should be loaded up!!

The bird hunting has been great here in the Chamberlain area this fall. Now with the crops out and the cold weather here they are bunchin up big time.
The GFP wanted to set a 5 bird limit the rest of the season, but that got SHOT down.
Anybody want any late season action just call Gary at 605 730 2370.

Late season here...

Moved two hens and two roosters this afternoon in an hour and a half hunt.

...had the added NW WI bonus of pushing 5 ruffed grouse in the same cover.

Proof there are things to do once the water gets hard...
