Default ranger 1860 angler prop

I just bought a new 1860 angler with a 175 mercury pro xs and 9.9 kicker. i have not had it in the water yet , but i noticed the pitch of the prop was 18. i thought it would be higher does this sound right ? it is a merc stainless prop.

It's quite a mystery. Another forum member and myself both just bought 1860s with a 175 ProXS and his came with a 21p prop and mine came with a 19p. I would love to hear from Ranger just what their policy is on propping these boats.

I would be interested also. I've seen the same variances on the 620's and 621's. Maybe one of the Ranger dealers will chime in.

Just a guess here: Maybe the elevation that the different boats are shipped to and the final weight of the entire rigs with options that were ordered? (extra batteries, etc.)

Default 1850

when I bought my bought last fall the dealer and I discussed what prop to put on it and requested it from Ranger, I have seen a dealer out here in Colorado that is putting 21 tempests on them, no way in **** that they will turn them at alltitude. BTW i found the rev 4 the best matchfor my boat, the tempest 17 pitch I think would be great at lower elevation but at 7500' i could not get over 5100 rpm. enjoy, btw Ranger and your dealer if they are worthy will change out you prop to get it right.

Running similar hulls with my 1850, I tried several props. There is no way a 21P is gonna work, even with the bigger motor. I think the 19P will be a good prop on the 175. Talking to several people and doing a lot of research, that is gonna be the closest. I tried a 17P 3 blade viper and that was clicking over 6000rpms. Went with a 19P Viper and had propman pitch it down to 18P and add the merc vent holes. It still has a really good hole shot and I am closer to 5500 rpms on top. Does not blow out at all either. My boat came with a 18P Cyclone 4 blade which had an awesome hole shot, but was only turning around 5200 rpms and the first time I backed off the throttle too quickly I about went over the steering wheel!

Every boat is gonna be a little different depending on weight, if you run a kicker, amount and placement of gear, how many people you run with?? You will have to drive it first and put some hours on the motor before playing with props. I wanted a prop that would have a good hole shot for water sports, but yet still perform fairly well. If you are wanting all out performance and the hole shot isn't as important, than that changes the equation. Propman is the guy to talk to for sure to get the best results!!!! Have fun guys......

Forgot to mention, I am really curious to hear from you guys who got the 175ProXS!!! I really thought hard about ordering that combo. Not usually a Merc guy, but that probably has to be the fastest combo in my opinion for this setup. If that motor is pushing close to 190HP, it should be pretty quick. Let me know what numbers you guys get when you get dialed in??

Default 1860 Angler Prop

I have the same boat, bought it new in 2010. 175 Pro XS and 9.9 kicker. I have a 21 pitch tempest plus 3 blade, its the prop I would recommend. It comes out of the hole and runs 56mph at about 5600rpm, perfect.

That's the first I've ever heard of these motors actually turning a 21 pitch Tempest. Usually these only turn 19s. So to the OP, i'd probably start with the 19 and go from there.

Have a little hard time believing 56 on GPS? I have looked at these boats since they came out and never heard anything faster than 53 at best? Any gear or fuel on board? 21 pitch prop is pretty steep too. The hole shot must he pretty slow?
