Default Need new livewell pump 500 or 800?

My Crestliner pump sounds little sick making more noise and pumping slower. Just ordered 500 and 800 ghp Tsunami Attwoods. Went with $30 kit Amazon for 500 with stainless strainer and $26 800. I have amazon prime and wanted to get ball rolling.

I'd suggest a livewell pump of lower pumping capacity than your bilge pump.

For sure, go to the larger pump.
When you want the livewell filled, you want it filled right now.

I assume that you have a timer on your pump so that you can cycle your livewell pump.

You can always turn the pump off, but if there is not enough water getting into the livewell, the fish will die.

I prefer a 1000 gph pump on both the livewell and the livewell.

Be safe

I did that once replacing a 500 with a 750 on a older Lund Pro V and found that live well level outlet would not keep up and the water would overflow the live well if left on manual verse auto.

X2!
Been there, done that myself. Filling the livewell "fast" is not the purpose of a livewell pump, but properly sized for your livewell, overflow outlet, it will displace/replace the water 2-4 times per hour in the livewell. I'd recommend replacing OEM pump with pump of equal or close GPH. Bigger (in this case) is NOT better!!!

Agreed. Biggest possible for bilge and 500 for live well.

Most boats have a way to adjust how much water enters the livewell by the spray head turning it in less water turning it out more water. Adjust so the inflow keeps constant with the overflow.

creating too much head pressure on an oversize pump shortening the life of the pump motor drastically. Sticking with OEM size pump still the best option all the way around.
