Default Merc Big tiller

What is the difference between a standard and optional big tiller handle?

I believe the BIG TILLER is provided as an option for larger HP motors (100hp and above) and comes with Merc. factory power steering....

Default merc big tiller

Go to web site mercury marine big tiller. Gives a good description of Big Tiller handle on 40-60hp and the original 75hp and higher.

there are a few things different between the 2
1) the Big Tiller handle is usually quite a bit longer than the standard (ELHPTO) version, for greater leverage. In some cases (40-60hp motors) it may actually be too long (IMO).
2) The BT is available with or without a hydraulic pump/power steering system
3) the BT has a forward mounted shifter, and the trim up/down button is located where your left thumb would be. No need for a seperate foot or side-mounted trim switch.
4) the BT has an optional troll-control feature, for incremental rpm adjustment.

Other than that, they both steer the motor, and control the throttle.
