I second the anchor, and don't forget plenty of anchor line.

I once forgot our danforth anchor in the garage, I still had two other anchors on board we use on inland lakes, but he wouldnt let us go out till I got that danforth on board.(off of Cleveland)
Officers don't mess around when it comes to Erie. They wanna see ya come back. I have found them to always be very professional, and helpful.

Not keeping any extra life vests on board could be a mistake. More than once I've had um blow off the boat as we throttled ur up. A sharp eye will notice, otherwise it's a gonner. Al of a sudden, now your short a vest.

Forgot about the anchor's
2 15 lb. anchors, each with 50 ft of nylon rope tied to a 3 foot piece of chain on each anchor. I do have 2, 100 ft. sections of new rope I'll throw in the boat. That should be good to hold the boat.

Thanks again for going over my list..

Ditto on the compass. Nothing makes you feel better than a compass to give you confidence in the GPS. I've got one mounted on my boat.

Ant suggestions on a decent compass?
should I put it on a Ram mount?
Heading out today and may pick up one.
Possibly a Ritchie?

Ritchie makes a fine compass. As far as mounting, I would mount it as firm as possible. I would not use a ram mount. Once its mounted its not to move. Make sure its mounted away from any gauges that have a magnetic field. The instructions will explain it.

Thanks for all of your help.
i printed out this list of items I need and all that is left is a compass?
I do have the garmin III handheld, but I'm sure it is better to have the garmin as backup and go with the Compass as primary..

Thanks again

I was in a really bad storm once. Actually a tornado had moved in I found out later. Nearly lost everything, including my life. I had a gps but it did not work, I think it had to do with the lightening and storm, but Im not sure. I was only 2 miles off shore but I coudnt see land. If it wasnt for the compass I would have had no idea where shore was.

thats one reason why when you fire up your gps you always get that disclaimer, "do not rely on this device as a primary source of navigation."

its great when it works.

Small tool kit and spray lube... The list goes on... Actually Sunshine prepared an "extensive" list of "stuff" to take/consider in the truck and the boat... E-mail me and I'll dig out a copy and replay with it...
