Default Transducer out of water?

So my dealer just installed my hds 10 and he mounted the structure scan tranducer on the transom. He then mounted the other transducer the one that came with the hds some other place i didn't ask about. There my be a possible that he mounted the transducer on the terrova but not sure.

Would this run correctly or is it even possible, with having one of the transducers not even in the water. Also i was very disappointed that i had to mount my hds on the side gunnel by the drink holder instead of on the dash ( 1775 impact ss), but this adds a whole new level of movement so glad some things came out okay.

If anyone has any knowledge on this your imput will be very appriciated. Thanks Mountainspring

Any depth finder to work, MUST have the transducer in the water.

If you are talking about the one on the trolling motor, the depth finder will only work if the trolling motor is in the water.

I assume that both of the rear mounted transducers are mounted correctly and are in the water when the boat is in the water.

Well the thing is the only the structure scan transducer is mounted at the rear.

My question now is can the hds run all it's bells and whistles with the regular tranducer not in the water. Therefore only the structure scan scan transducer is in the water e,g, trolling at higher speed without the terrova steering.

Not to worry. No need for the starboard.
It just means that if you have to change transducers will you have extra holes in the boat.

Mountain,
Since this is apparently a new boat, have the dealer or one of his staff come out on the water with you and have them go over everything on the boat and have them explain everything to you and also insure that everything is working correctly while on the water.

It is your money, it is not an unreasonable request and many dealers will do exactly that.

Good luck

If this is a competent dealer, I am guessing that everything has been installed correctly.
But it wouldn't hurt to have everything demonstrated on the water in actual use to both verify its correct operation as well as helping you to learn how to run everything.

I would have definitely wanted the mounting board. As it's already past that point, make sure you install one if any changes have to be made that would require new holes. You don't want your transom looking like swiss cheese.

To clarify you only had the LSS transducer on the back, the HDS on the dash and the skimmer transducer is where?

If you plan on using the unit at speed you need to have the skimmer on back of the transom.

My guess is that it wasn't mounted to the Terrova. And, no, they don't work out of water.

Are you sure he didn't mount it in the floor as a "through hull" transducer?

Why not just ask them where they put it? The answer is just a phone call away.
