Default Alumacraft Owner Questions

I'm in need of expertise from Alumacraft owners. My local dealer is not very good and seems to not really care about my concerns.

I purchased a new 2016 Competitor 175 CS LE with a 150 Eteh and have a few questions.

- Im running a 13.5 x 17 Viper SS Evinrude Prop and do about 46. Does that seem right?? Anyone have better results with different prop?

- Love to troll but was told through bolting 9.8 kicker would have to much weight on transom. Thoughts?

- Do I need to have 25" shaft for kicker or will a 20" work

Thanks in advance!!

I had a Competitor 165 side console with a 90 Honda, I could hit 40, just me and a little gas, most times I was around 37-38. So what you are getting is about right, to me anyway. I just had a standard prop that came with the motor. 40 was plenty fast for me.

No problem with putting on a Kicker on mine, I didn't but could.

I have a 2015 175 sport with a 2.1l 115 Mec 4 stroke. with two guys, 17p spitfire prop @ 6k rpm I can do 44-45 and a full tank and a 9hp 20" Nissan kicker.

What is your Rpm fully loaded and with a buddy? Put a kicker on you'll appreciate not wearing down your big motor. why put Hrs on a $$$$$ when you can get a kicker for 1-2k.

No one can give you good prop advice unless you tell us where you are at in terms of RPM's at WOT.

My first impression is that the dealer did just fine with that prop. But, it can always be improved upon.

If you are purely looking for speed, prop it at around 5750-5800 WOT with average load. Then fine tune from there. The Viper is an OK all around prop, but not going to be the fastest prop out there.

I suspect that your dealer did pretty well with your setup.....

Dealer suggested a 25" shaft for kicker but everything i've researched shows people only put on 20"

Don't think you'll need the 25" kicker. Would it work? No doubt. I know my kicker is 20" but not the same boat.

I had a 20" nissan 9.8B ( two stroke) long shot electric start with a 4 blade 5p kicker prop and it fits perfect on the 25" transom. The transom is only 25" in the very center of the V. I think near the area that I have mine its around 20-22. I can run the Kicker WOT and it does a excellent job pushing the boat. Id say have them put on a small 9hp laying around to test the hight and if you like it go with it
