Default New Hunting pup - Braque Francais de Petite Taille

I've been working with a breeder in the US who in turn is friends with the ex president of the Braque Francais club of France to locate a quality female for import to the US. Basically looking for strong blood lines to move into the US to help expand the breeds hold here in the states. The Breed is not AKC recognized in the US. We have a very small holding in the country, just think of a dog with the temperament of a Lab, but a hunting drive of a German Short Hair. I have GPS collars for the dogs and Blaise will run 15 miles to my 3 miles in the field. It's pretty crazy how much ground these dogs can cover.

She started her life in this area of France.

The picking out of a puppy was completely different from what i've done in the US. My selection process was. "I want a female". The instructions I was given was to pick a name that started with a "J" In France, each year is assigned a letter and the dogs name must start with that letter. It's used to easily keep track of age of the dogs. We have a "F" and an "I" dog currently between my father and myself.

The End result.. Josie de la Bae de Myrthe -- Braque Francais de Petite Taille

She flew from Paris to Houston and stayed with the breeder that helped line things up and then went from Houston to Minneapolis where I picked her up. The dog has traveled more in an airplane then my girlfriend

On our way home from MSP

Blaise wasn't impressed with the addition at first. Blaise is a 1st gen US dog. Both of his parents were imported from France.

She was tiny when I got her (probably dehydrated and a touch of worms) She was de wormed in Galveston when she got state side.

Eventually she was accepted

My parents Braque immediately took a liking to the little girl. Charlie is also a 1st Gen dog.

My parents have a quarter section that is CRP behind their house so I took her for a few walks over the last weekend with the other pointers. She was slightly worn out on the drive back to Sioux Falls.

I had to go to Bozeman, MT for work this past week so I dropped the dogs off in Mitchell again and in the 4 weeks that I've had her, she's been growing steadily and her training is progressing well with her basic obedience

The end result will be a breeding ***** in 2 years to help grow the blood lines in the US. With a wait of about 12 - 16 months for a Braque puppy its hard to grow the breed in the US people just don't want to wait.

I almost bought a hybrid lab from a breeder in SD. ended up once again going with a straight lab. I got very lucky, she has been a pheasant hunting machine. And with zero training. God was looking out for me on this one. Good luck with your new dog. Hope she's a dandy.

Default Congrats.

Congrats on the dog. Really a great breed. Max (Maximus de Chambois N.D.) will be 6 next month. Fun 4 day round trip to Montreal to pick him up.

I've heard good things about the breeder in Quebec. They are a great breed that I have been very happy with so far. Hunting pointers vs flushers has really changed my way of hunting pheasants over the last 4 years.

She leaves in a month for 2 months of training with Bill Dillion in Armour, SD http://dogpro.net.

He trained my other Braque to great success.
