Drilling into the fiberglass

Great info thanks wiredog. Is there fiberglass drill bits too? Or is it just different hole saws they use on fiberglass?

Took me two years to get up the nerve to drill these holes, not really but it was nerve racking. Ran the nearly 6" hole saw in reverse until gel was scored then went for it. Actually came out very clean.

Speakers. I know, I know, not everybody's cup of tea but my boat is a dual purpose rig and the extra set of speakers is a MAJOR improvement over the factory set up. I rarely have the radio on when fishing but when the family and or friends are at the beach or cruising it's nice.
I did plenty of research before cutting the holes and talked to a local guy who does nothing but repair glass boats. He said keep the cut outs and if ever necessary he could repair so it would look like it was never touched.

Since the speakers are going to be facing toward the bow of the boat, the speakers are going to get wet.

Make sure that the speakers that you install are marine speakers with poly cones.

Any type paper cone would have a very short life.

No, just use the same bits that you would for metal. Also the same thread taps. Wiredog
