Default Transom Angle Questions

I am designing a removable boarding ladder for our boat, but would like it to work on most any boat. I have a couple variables to figure out.

1. Are transom angles relative to the gunwales pretty standard?

2. Do transoms vary in thickness or is 2" standard?

3. If you placed a level on the gunwales of a floating boat, how level would it be? I realize motor and load weight will vary. I am thinking fairly level with a little downhill slope towards the transom would be typical.

Thanks for any feedback....

Ryan

Thanks REW,

12 degrees looks to be pretty average, and is consistent with mine.
